Drinking Water Woes:

The tap water in Karachi is not of drinking quality. Some try to deal with this by installing water filters at home or by boiling the water.

But the problem is that while both the filter and boiling can kill the bacteria and can remove some impurities, not all impurities can be removed by boiling and simple three-stage filters.

This problem is made worse by the fact that the lines from which water comes to our houses are very old and made of metal. This metal can leech into the water. And the filter cannot stop these metal impurities, nor can they be removed by the simple filter.

So, we turn to the drinking water suppliers. But for those of us who don't want to pay extremely high prices, our only solution seems to be the local filtration plants in small shops. 

But these small shops use the same filters that we use at home and they cannot stop those metal impurities either. And above all they don't have any labs, let alone labs with proper equipment for testing water quality. They don't test the water after adding minerals, which can lead to imbalances.
